What is Happening?
Happening is a weekend for high school youth, 10th through
12th grades, 15-18 years old. Happening begins on Friday night
at 7 pm and concludes with a worship service on Sunday
afternoon. During the two-day weekend, participants experience
the love of our Lord as shown through the sacraments and the
ministry of fellow students, clergy, and lay adults. Those who
attend Happening are encouraged to take their faith back into
the world to make a friend, be a friend, and introduce a
friend to Christ.
Format of Happening
The teenager who leads Happening, other teenagers, adults, and
the clergy who make up the "staff" spend weeks working and
praying together in preparation. The Happening takes careful
planning because the time is short and the subject extensive.
The titles of the talks indicate some of their content:
Reality, Faith, Grace, Sacraments, Piety, Jesus Christ and His
Disciples. Following the talks the Happeners discuss them in
small groups.
Encounter with Christ
Happening is an encounter with Christ. That sounds simple,
doesn’t it? Think about it - a real meeting with Christ. The
power, beauty, and joy of being with Him. Interested??? Join
us!
Who can attend?
Any youth, 15 - 18 years of age, or in the 10th, 11th or 12th
grades. For this purpose, your grade changes on June 1 each
year.
What to bring to
Happening:
Sleeping bag, comfortable clothes, an open mind, a musical
instrument you play, and a good appetite.
What to leave at home:
School books, preconceived ideas, unfriendly attitudes, formal
church clothes, hang-ups, your parents, alcoholic beverages,
illegal drugs, smokes, electronics including games, radios,
cassette and CD players, phones, and pagers.
Cost
The cost of the weekend is only $55.00, due with the
application. Partial scholarships are available for those who
truly need them. If financial assistance is needed, simply
send as much as you can and a note requesting a scholarship
for the balance.
